One of the most important red wines in the country, St Laurent (aka. Saint Laurent, Sankt Laurent) is Austria’s Queen grape variety according to winemaker Johannes Trapl. With over 730 hectares of St Laurent, plantations have almost doubled since the 2000 and it is becoming a popular wine for its attractive character – as a sibling of Pinot Noir. In this St Laurent wine guide and interview, Johannes discusses the origin of St Laurent, how it behaves in the vineyard and winery, and how it tastes in the glass. Johannes also shares his favourite food pairings for St Laurent wine.
