Chile’s Itata valley was on the brink of disappearing from the modern Chilean wine industry, however a handful of winemakers have been working hard in the area to make top quality wines from old vines, and new vines, and have steadily gained the market’s interest in this gem of a wine region. One of those winemakers is Francois Massoc, who works in Itata for various projects including his own wines in Clos des Fous. Here Amanda Barnes interviews him from the relatively new vineyards of Pandolfi Price where he is consultant winemaker. Francois discusses the terroir of Itata, the history and the wines being made today.

I have never tried a Chardonnay from Itata. I will add it to the list!
